Jean S. Ellis
Chattanooga, Tennessee-Jean S Ellis, 96, passed away on May 1, two thousand seventeen in Chattanooga, TN. At the time of her death she was with her instantaneous family.
Born in Delmar, Md., she was the only child of the late Helen and Ray C. Sturgis. She was educated in the public schools of Delmar, DE. and was a graduate of the University of Delaware with both a bachelor's and master's degrees in Education. She retired in one thousand nine hundred eighty one after forty years as a teacher in the Delaware public schools.
A long-time supporter of public libraries she served as a trustee of the Delmar Public Library for thirty five years and was a former member of the Sussex County Library Advisory Board and of the Delaware State Library Advisory Board. She was chosen Delmar's Citizen of the year in one thousand nine hundred eighty one for the work with the local library. She was a volunteer, as well as, a member of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. An avid golfer she was for many years a member of Greenhill Yacht and Country Club and its Women's Golf Association. She was a member of the St. Stephens United Methodist Church and of its United Methodist Women's Group.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her daughter, Pamela Ellis Crichton, and son-in-law, James W. Crichton, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN., two grandchildren, Paige Crichton Draper (Mrs. Ford B. Draper, III) of Kennett Square, PA. and James. W. Crichton, III of Fresh York, N.Y. and four great-grandchildren. A fellowship coffee gathering will be held on Saturday, June three from 9:30 a.m. to Ten:30 a.m. at Camelot Hall of St. Stephen's Church, followed by a graveside service to be held at the St. Stephens Cemetery Park at 11:00 a.m.
